I just heard from the adoption agency, and I'm thrilled to report that my case made it through court in Addis today!
I'm officially Elsa's mama now, and will be leaving to go get her in a just a few weeks!!!

New Monthly Update
Got my monthly update on Miss Elsa today.
She is growing like a weed!!!
Weight: 6.8kg (15 pounds!) - between 10 and 25 percentile
Height: 65cm (25.6 inches) - between 25 and 50 percentile
Head circumference: 43cm (16.9 inches) - between 50 and 75 percentile
On Saturday, she will be six months old. :-)
And tomorrow, as you know, is the big Court Date!
(please keep fingers and toes crossed)

road trip is coming soon
I’m definitely getting excited about Austin now, although in many ways it still seems kind of unreal. I sent out a big email to friends and family offering wild “Kate can’t stand to pack any more and she wants paintings on walls not in storage” discounts on paintings (I figure one spam email every 2 years is ok) and have sold 3 so far, with people seriously considering 6 more.
Latest thing that sounds great about Austin: every morning, someone from Taco Deli comes by the office there to sell the (hugely delicious) breakfast tacos for just $2 each. Heaven, I’m in heaven…
Susan is all set to fly out and drive with me to Texas! What a pal. We are going to hit Palm Springs on the first night and stay with the stellar stepmom, Jan. The next day we are going to do a LONG haul across Arizona and New Mexico, hopefully spending that night in El Paso. Third day, El Paso to Austin! Then a Saturday of just hanging out in Austin before Susan has to jet back to Boston. Whew.

A New Nest
My darling daughters found the perfect apartment for me over the weekend. It is on the top of Bon Air hill in Greenbrae. It is just minutes from 101 and right above a shopping center. They did a great job and I am so happy to have their help. There was a lot of scurrying about to get the place secured and they both went above and beyond to make that happen. I feel very loved and very well cared for... can you end a sentence with a preposition?
The apt is light and airy with a great view. The unit is very private and my deck looks out over the tree tops beyond Corte Madera Creek to Mt. Tam. I know I will be spending hours on the deck communing with nature! It has just been completely redone so everything is brand new. It has a fireplace and a stacked washer/dryer unit which will be great. No hauling my laundry and quarters to a common laundry area.
I am VERY excited and hope to move in on March 15th. OH by the way, I am in escrow and if all goes as planned, it will close on March 6th. Oh happy day... I am so relieved to have a buyer for my home. It has been a very long wait.

Sara at Millway house
This is my fab realtor, Sara, in front on the rental house that I applied for on Saturday. Now just waiting with fingers crossed that the landlord accepts. This house and its huge fenced backyard cost less in rent per month than my cute yet little flat in Richmond! It's a very quick drive to work and is in a great little neighborhood called Allandale.
If my first choice house here doesn't work out, then I have a great #2 lined up. More on that later if I go that direction.

Stubb's Gospel Brunch in Austin today
Great food, deeply cool old stone building, a new friend to hang out with (thank you Melissa for coming along!) and some seriously soulful music - what more could a person want? Stubb's Gospel Brunch was a blast, although it was way too amplified. Didn't seem like these guys needed that much volume. Anyhow, they got the whole crowd moving and singing - can I hear an AMEN?!
